Mira Nair is not just for Name - Sake..!!!

A huge feel of India sitting in a Danish Hall - for me. As I stepped out of the hall, after two unnoticed hours rushed through, I could not believe I was not in India, rather roaming in some foreign land. To such an extent was Mira Nair able to portray the realities of our home, and still keep it so beautiful and simple. A simple Bengali girl with a big red bindi; a Professor who had just two pairs of footwear - one the chappals, and the other worn out shoes for work, and an american born cognizant desi, who doesn't realize the importance of his name till he starts looking from his father's perspective. There was every bit of blend that could possibly be thought of between the Indian and the western culture, in the movie. The credit goes to Jhumpa Lahiri, whose novel I never read, but just heard from close friends, which now attracts me to go ahead and read it out totally. And Mira Nair, for so glamorously showing the audiences what India is really great for, for its culture not being washed away even when we are west-side. This movie is not to be seen, but to be felt. And it has struck me at the right moment, when I am away from home, and when I miss it so much.!!

Well, need to mention, Indian expatriate girls feel really nice to see Indian expatriate boys!! They just love to smile at them, and giggle their way through. Especially in a place like Copenhagen, where Indians are seldom seen, it was an experience to see some nice desi crowd amidst some Danish crowd, who also take huge interest in India-inspired films. The show (not free ofcourse!!) was part of the Night Film Festival in Copenhagen, which also saw other Indian movies like Kabul Express, Fanaa, Dhoom-2 etc being shown, through the two-week month period. Lots of information available at www.natfilm.dk!
